Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

Rotabo is operated from Switzerland and available worldwide. This Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have. It applies to anyone who submits a listing, pays a fee, or visits rotabo.app.

We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who Is Responsible

The controller of your personal data is the operator of the Rotabo platform, based in Switzerland.

Contact: support@rotabo.app

2. What Data We Collect

Everyone who submits a listing (any category, seeking or offering)

Everything in a listing is what its author typed. Rotabo publishes it as given, without checking, approving, or correcting it, and displaying it does not make it Rotabo's statement. You are responsible for what you put in your own listing — including that it is true, that you are entitled to offer or ask for what you describe, and that publishing it is lawful where you are.

Email verification

Before a listing can be published, we send a one-time 6-digit code to the email address you provided and ask you to type it back. We temporarily store the email address, the code, and its expiry time to check this; a short-lived token confirming your email is verified is then used to let you submit your listing. This step confirms only that the address works and that whoever is submitting can read mail sent to it — it is not an identity check, and it verifies nothing else about the person or the listing.

Payment data

Payments are processed by Stripe. Rotabo does not collect, see, or store your full card number, CVC, or bank details. We receive only confirmation of a completed payment and limited metadata (amount, currency, timestamp, transaction reference) tied to your listing.

Sponsors

Viewer access (people who pay to see the listings, without publishing one)

All visitors (browsing only, no listing submitted)

4. What We Share — and With Whom

To users who have purchased viewer access, once your listing is paid and visible: your name, phone number, email, city, country, address, and note (if any) are shown to anyone holding viewer access who browses the opposite role in your category. Being found is the point of a listing — but your contact details are never public: a visitor without viewer access cannot see your phone number, email address, street address or note, and cannot open your listing.

Publicly, in the running band on the home page: while your listing is visible, the band shows your first name only — the first word of the name you entered — the category, whether you are offering it or looking for it, your town and country, and your Rotabo number if you have one. It never shows your surname, phone number, email address, street address or note. If you would rather not appear there, write to support@rotabo.app and we will remove your listing.

Sponsors: the display information you choose is published publicly on the supporters page. Anonymous sponsors are never named.

Service providers acting on our instructions:

Authorities: only where legally required.

We never sell your personal data.

5. After You're Connected

Rotabo does not monitor, record, or track what happens once two users contact each other. We hold no data about any arrangement, journey, exchange, or service carried out between users after they connect.

Rotabo makes the connection and nothing more. It does not vet, screen, or background-check anyone, and it holds no information that would let it tell you whether another user is trustworthy. Decide that for yourself: ask questions, verify what matters to you before agreeing to anything, and follow the law that applies to you. If a listing is false, unlawful, or harmful, tell us at support@rotabo.app and we will look at it.

6. International Transfers

Rotabo operates from Switzerland and serves users worldwide. Our database is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt); some of the service providers listed in Section 4, such as GitHub and Google, are based outside Switzerland and the EEA. Where data is transferred outside Switzerland or the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. How Long We Keep Data

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

To exercise any right, write to support@rotabo.app.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS), restricted access to data (an internal, password-protected view of listings and traffic used only to operate the platform), and rely on Stripe's certified infrastructure for all payment handling. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

10. Cookies and Local Storage

We don't use traditional tracking cookies for our own features. We use your browser's local storage for things strictly necessary for the platform to work: your language preference, a random per-browser identifier used for page-visit analytics, and — after you verify a code — a short-lived marker so you don't have to re-verify the same email again within the same browsing session. Google Analytics sets its own cookies for aggregate traffic statistics; you can opt out using your browser's or Google's own tools at any time.

11. Age Requirement

Rotabo is not intended for anyone under 18 to submit a listing. We do not knowingly collect listing data from minors. Some categories (see the Terms of Service) may involve arrangements where children or other people of any age are present or benefit from what's arranged, even though the Rotabo user submitting the listing must be an adult. If you believe a minor has submitted a listing, contact us and we will remove it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy, including as categories, features, or service providers change. The current version is always available on the platform, with the date of last update shown above.
